Warhammer Online Further Enhances Accessibility with New Streaming Free Trial Client and Introduction of New User Journey Features

Mythic Entertainment™  announced that the critically-acclaimed MMORPG, Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning® (WAR), has replaced its 10-day time-limited free trial with a new, endless free* trial program which is now available for download. The new streaming client for the endless free trial enhances the game’s accessibility and greatly decreases the download time, making it easier than ever for new players to experience the never-ending battles of WAR for themselves.

The new WAR endless free trial replaces the original 10-day time-limited trial program, and gives new and returning players the opportunity to create and play any of the 24 different careers to find their perfect character match for use during extended gameplay if they purchase the game and/or subscribe. The endless free trial limits players to progress through character level 10 as they explore the tier one Empire vs. Chaos zones of Nordland and Norsca. In addition, players can explore the newly added tier one dungeon, Hunter’s Vale, or battle other players in the instanced scenarios Nordenwatch, Khaine’s Embrace and Gates of Ekrund.

Endless free trial players will embark on the recently introduced New User Journey, which features enhanced tutorials and new community elements, such as a “new player” guild, to streamline the transition of new players into WAR and its vibrant community of players.

“With the introduction of the endless free trial and streaming client, we are making it easier than ever for a new player to join the WAR,” said Jeff Hickman, executive producer, Mythic Entertainment. “We’ve worked hard to create a more informative and community driven new user experience, and now we are giving players an unlimited amount of time to explore the early parts of the game at their own pace. We are confident that players new and old will find all the enhancements we’ve made to WAR over the past year worthy of their time and commitment.”

Available now, the new streaming endless trial client is a seamless way for new users to get into the game. After an initial download of just over 1GB, additional content streams in the background as required while playing. All closed 10-day free trial accounts have been converted to open endless free trial accounts and are ready for returning players to resume their journeys across the frontlines of WAR.

New users and returning players can download the Warhammer Online endless free trial by visiting http://www.warhammeronline.com/trial.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning – Halloween to be marked with a Daemon Moon Rising event

October 18, 2009 · Filed Under MMO, News, Online · Comment

The Moon Rises and Chaos Reigns October 23rd through November 2nd

Mythic Entertainment™  announced that the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning® (WAR), will host a special live event, Daemon Moon Rising, for a limited time during the 2009 Halloween season. Daemon Moon Rising, will run in-game from October 23rd through November 2nd, and will feature the Daemon Mask event quest, a new Daemonball Rally Public Quest, a special Realm vs. Realm™ scenario, and treats both fair and foul.

In Daemon Moon Rising, a fiendish sub-cult of Chaos artificers have bound savage daemons into innocuous carnival masks and smuggled them into the Empire. The Daemon Mask event quest will task players with collecting these possessed masks and defeating the daemons bound within. As a reward for halting the menace of the masks, players will receive a souvenir Daemon Mask and a chance to discover the rare and powerful Magus Daemonarium within a sack of sinister secrets.

The Daemonball Rally Public Quest will pit players of Order and Destruction versus one another in a battle to seize the Daemon Cradle and empower the essence of nightmares against their opponents.

“This is a terrifying time of year within the world of Warhammer and the Daemon Moon Rising live event is our way of fighting against the darkness that encompasses the land,” said Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer for Mythic Entertainment. “We call on all players to rise up against the malevolent creatures that threaten the land and keep safe the Realms. But beware, for under the cold, dark madness of the Daemon Moon, anything can happen!”

Players can also don their masks and participate in “Wake the Dead”, a special running of the High Pass Cemetery RvR scenario available to characters of all tiers during the Daemon Moon Rising live event.

Other fiendish rewards available to event participant include: the Fiendfang with bonus to healing, damage, renown, and XP; the Face of the Unborn mask; the Meatcleaver’s mask; the Face-Eater’s mask; the arcane Malleus Daemonarium; and special talisman components imbued with the might of Chaos itself.

Forged by Chaos, a novel based by the Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, to be published by The Black Library

September 6, 2009 · Filed Under MMO, News, Online · Comment

Third Novel in Series Offers Readers an Epic Account of Destruction’s Battle to Inflict Widespread Chaos throughout the World

Mythic Entertainment™, an Electronic Arts Inc. studio, and The Black Library, a division of Games Workshop, announced FORGED BY CHAOS, an original novel based on the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning® (WAR). The third in a series of WAR novels, FORGED BY CHAOS will be available in all major bookstores and on the Black Library website in the fall of 2009.

FORGED IN CHAOS, by noted Black Library author C.L. Werner, provides an epic and gripping account of Destruction’s incursion into the infinitely massive and decidedly deadly Bastion Stair in search of the legendary Spear of Myrmidia. As the armies of Destruction continue their war upon the civilized lands, the Raven Host of Chaos is poised to march upon the Empire of Man in an unstoppable tide. To ensure victory against the Emperor’s Order of the Griffon, an elite party of Chaos warriors is tasked with the quest to find the Spear of Myrmidia and fully unleash the power of the Winds of Chaos. To work such awesome magic, the marauder Kormak must dare venture into the Bastion Stair, portal to the Realm of Khorne, and defy the Blood God’s wrath. However, the warriors of the Raven Host are not the only ones with an interest in harnessing the powers of Chaos, Treacherous Dark Elves and brutish Orcs each look to seize the power for themselves, while a desperate Imperial army races to deny all of their foes the dreaded might of Chaos.

“With the first two Warhammer Online novels, EMPIRE IN CHAOS and DARK STORM GATHERING, we saw the Realm vs. Realm conflict from the besieged viewpoint of Order,” said Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer for Mythic Entertainment. “FORGED BY CHAOS provides readers with their first look into the dark, megalomaniacal minds of the forces of Destruction. Rife with internal conflict, shifting allegiances, and a never-ending lust for murder, we see firsthand how this unholy alliance of Destruction is just as deadly to each other as they are to the armies of Order.”

“Mythic Entertainment have done an amazing job capturing the twisted morality and mindset of the Forces of Destruction in Warhammer Online and it was a pleasure to tap into that for FORGED BY CHAOS,” said C.L. Werner. “From the grim Chaos northmen, to the treacherous dark elves and bloodthirsty greenskins, the villains in FORGED BY CHAOS represent in-game characters I think readers will find both engaging and disturbing. The Bastion Stair, as envisioned for WAR is a truly infernal setting, a hellish crucible to try the most powerful of heroes and a fitting obstacle for the cast to overcome. Recreating this nightmarish place from the designs of the game developers was a daunting, but extremely rewarding labor.”

Based on the popular tabletop war game from Games Workshop, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning features revolutionary Realm vs. Realm™ conflict that will provide an engaging battleground for years to come. Available now for PC, WAR will be available for the Mac in the fall of 2009. WAR is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Teams Up With Members of Blue Oyster Cult on Original Rock Song

April 22, 2009 · Filed Under MMO, News, Online · Comment

‘Kiss My Axe (While I Drink My Beer)’ Celebrates the Oath (and Axe) of the Dwarf Slayer

Mythic Entertainment™, an Electronic Arts Inc. Studio, announced that members of the Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning® (WAR) development team recently collaborated with Eric Bloom and Richie Castellano of the hard rock band Blue Öyster Cult to produce an original rock song. Entitled ‘Kiss My Axe (While I Drink My Beer),’ the track celebrates the recent launch of the new Dwarf Slayer career.

Bloom, a long-time gamer and avid fan of WAR, and Castellano teamed up with Mythic Entertainment’s Lead Sound Artist Brad Derrick, Associate Producer Josh Drescher and Senior Creative Director Paul Barnett. The results of their studio session can be heard here: http://www.warhammeronline.com/music/.

“We thought long and hard about how to properly tell gamers what the Dwarf Slayer is all about,” said Paul Barnett, Senior Creative Director for WAR and the song’s lyricist. “After going around in circles, we came to the obvious solution – we needed to write and record a hard rockin’ song, and we needed to do it with members of Blue Öyster Cult. If this song doesn’t get you fired up to shave your hair into a mohawk, dye it red, and play a Slayer, then you’re probably dead!”

“I’d heard a previous song written and performed by members of the WAR team, and thought they were quite good for a ‘garage band’ of game developers,” said Eric Bloom, lead vocalist for Blue Oyster Cult. “I was very glad to hear from Mythic who invited me down to work on the song. I was impressed by the dedication of the developers to make WAR both a success and fun to play, something that, in my opinion, is missing from many other MMO’s.”
