Witness the Rise of the Dwarves in Runes of Magic: Chapter V – Fires of Shadowforge

May 28, 2012 · Filed Under News · Comment

With Fires of Shadowforge, the fifth chapter of the successful MMORPG Runes of Magic, set to release on June 12, a new race will be introduced to the world of Taborea.

The Shadowforge Dwarves, with their homeland in the Kingdom of Taffrock, will begin their adventure in the new starting area, the Yrvandis Hollows. Here players will find the beginner instance, the Outskirts of Taffrock, particularly challenging.

Taffrock, the subterranean kingdom of the Dwarves, was created long before the Great Banishment and the historic battle between the demons and the peoples of Taborea.

However, through a failed experiment, the Dwarves fell in to a prolonged slumber and slipped away into oblivion. Yet, when the royal scouts discovered them, they were awakened to new life, and the grandeur of their once forgotten kingdom unfolded once again. Read more

Runes of Magic levels up its Accessibility

The fantasy MMORPG Runes of Magic can now be played in a browser. Players can choose between the normal client version and the browser version thanks to the implementation of Kalydo streaming technology by Dutch gaming specialist, Eximion. Game quality is not compromised in the new version, and RoM can now be played on any PC that meets the technical requirements without having to download the full client.  For now the browser version will be offered in Europe only.

Downloading the browser version is fast and only requires the transmission of a small data package before players can get stuck in. It generally takes around 30 seconds before they reach the main menu and can move onto character creation.

The browser version runs on the same servers as  the client version, so players can still get together in familiar surroundings. The platforms currently supported include Windows 7, Vista and XP with Service Pack 2 installed. Supported browsers include the most up-to-date versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome.

Runes of Magic: Treasures of the desert

The latest Runes of Magic update is available now

Publisher Frogster today released „Treasures of the Desert‟ a new content update to its popular online RPG Runes of Magic. The update adds a new region, the Limo Desert, and a new instance, Kawak‟s Tomb. Gamers are now able to power up characters to level 62 and trade diamonds with a special NPC.

After extensive testing, Frogster has decided to reinstate the option to let Runes of Magic players trade gold for diamonds. The free fantasy online RPG is the only game in the Free2Play segment where players can use the in-game currency to trade for items purchased from the in-game shop. This feature was reintroduced after feedback from the community.

The public battle, the „Yasheedee Catastrophe‟, is also available across all Runes of Magic servers. To prevail in this legendary battle, players have to conquer aggressive foes. In the first phase of the multifaceted encounter, players must use special ropes to capture a horde of nasty worm-like creatures. The second phase challenges players to put as many Resonance Stones as possible in the right place. The more stones they place, the easier it is in the third and fourth phases, where the wicked „Hardskin Yasheedees‟ and the formidable „Crimson Devourer‟, an exceptionally tough boss, await.

A trailer showing the action-packed Limo Desert together with the dangerous Kawak‟s Tomb is also available. The region‟s breathtaking landscapes reveal magnificent buildings and Middle Eastern oases. But caution is strongly advised – conflict has been brewing among the local tribes for centuries, and powerful creatures and wild beasts are preparing for battle. Who will carry the day?

Runes of Magic celebrates first anniversary

March 22, 2010 · Filed Under MMO, News, Online · Comment

The online role playing game surpasses three million player mark

Right on time for its first birthday on 19th March 2010, the free to play online role play game Runes of Magic is able to announce the reaching of another milestone: Three million registered users in the USA and Europe are now exploring the game world Taborea.

Players on 23 servers in six different language versions have to date experienced more than 500 million quests in the fantasy world. To facilitate this the Berlin-based localisation team has translated over 4.5 million words for the European languages alone. Whether in the UK, Spain, France, Poland, Germany or the US − the desire for a communal gaming experience is the same in every country. Thus players join together worldwide to form guilds, build their own castles and go into battle against other player groups, or overcome sinister boss opponents. Over 7.5 million of these dangerous creatures have been defeated in one year by brave adventurers using their united powers. The Demon Lord – the powerful top villain of the first two chapters – has had his wings clipped just 24 times.

On the three million accounts for Runes of Magic fans have created approximately six million characters. Attempts by so-called ‘Gold Sellers’ to endanger the game economy were dealt with severely by Frogster’s Support department: in the past four months alone, more than 15,600 accounts of illegal sellers have been permanently excluded from the game.

A video which is being released today presents a roundup of the Runes of Magic feature palette which has been regularly extended with free updates on a monthly cycle. The video and more information about the one year birthday festivities can be found on the official website: www.runesofmagic.com/en/one-year-anniversary.html. Among other things, for today only, there is a free pet for all players who log on.

Runes of Magic has redefined the standard for free-to-play MMORPGs in terms of gameplay, fun and quality. The online role-playing game has an exciting, multi-layered story, driven by more than 2,300 quests set in the fantasy world of Taborea. To date, Runes of Magic has attracted more than 3 million registered users, making it one of the most successful free-to-play titles on the market, and a must play game for all fans of RPGs and MMO games.

Runes of Magic features a unique dual class system enabling players to combine one of eight primary classes with a secondary class. The result is a deep player experience that expands upon the game’s broad customization offering. There are two different playable races, Elves and Humans, from which players can choose. Each dual class combination produces its own powerful elite skills. Another popular feature is the opportunity to furnish your own virtual home, and guilds can construct guild castles, which can be expanded with additional buildings. Thanks to comprehensive crafting and reputation systems, gripping PvP features, deep customization and demanding dungeons, Runes of Magic has something for everyone. Taiwanese developer Runewaker regularly expands the game world with new free content and challenges.

Runes of Magic expands with new siege mode

March 10, 2010 · Filed Under MMO, News, Online · Comment

New PvP feature expands the world of Taborea with castle-battles and siege weapons

Frogster is pleased to announce that the time for epic battles in Runes of Magic has now arrived. The introduction of Siege Wars will further expand the online world of Taborea as guilds compete against one another to capture their opponents’ castle. The upcoming content update on 11th March will see the launch of the beta phase of the new Player vs Player mode. The definitive launch of the Siege Wars will then follow with the launch of ‘Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms’.

From the launch of Runes of Magic, guilds have been able to have their own strongholds, with building extensions and furnishings to complete their homes. To launch a Siege War all you need is two guilds, two castles and one simple objective – destroy your opponent and their castle. As a part of Chapter III, the Siege Wars will include new bonuses such as increased running speed and the ability to build an arsenal of weapons including catapults, rams and arrow throwers.

To succeed guilds will need to capture energy nodes on the battlefield to provide the necessary resources for the construction of battle weapons or towers. Should a team break through the enemy’s castle walls and make it to the throne room, then the defenders will have to protect the energy crystal which is kept there. If the team should seize all of the opponents’ crystals as well as their resource nodes, then the battle is won. Special rewards and titles beckon for victorious guilds.

From the launch of the feature, which will arrive on 11th March with the update ‘Patch 2.1.7. Siege Wars’, Runes of Magic players will have one month to give the battles a thorough test. Frogster will be ultimately implementing the new PvP mode into the online game world to its full extent within the framework of ‘Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms’. There is more information available about the Siege Wars on the official website: www.runesofmagic.com/en/siegewars-patch.html. A trailer gives some first impressions: http://www.runesofmagic.com/en/videos.html
