As EVE Online’s Galatea release went live today, New Eden is still reeling from one of the most dramatic events in its rich history.
Just last week the leader of the Amarr Empire, the controversial Empress Jamyl Sarum I, was confirmed assassinated at the hands of the mysterious Drifters following several major standoffs between the Amarr Navy and the powerful wormhole-dwelling forces.
Here is an early video news report from just after the attack by The Scope.
Players have since held their own vigils and said their remembrances. While the mourning period will last longer, there has been much discussion amongst capsuleers of the newly announced Succession Trials.
Set for a grand finale at EVE Fanfest 2016, the Amarr Championships are part of the Succession Trials. The series of battles will feature players fighting on behalf of the heirs of the royal Amarrian houses to pick the next ruler of the largest of EVE’s major empires. Read more

Reykjavik, Iceland: With 50% more tickets sold than last year, EVE Fanfest 2013 sold out last week as 1,400 lucky attendees from around the world prepare for what promises to be gaming’s greatest fan celebration ever. Held every year in Reykjavik, Iceland, Fanfest brings together fans of the EVE Universe for three days of epic celebrations that include panels, local Icelandic excursions, presentations, PvP tournaments, a developer-lead pub crawl, reveals, camaraderie and the spectacle that is the Party at the Top of the World.
Last week, CCP Games, makers of EVE Online and DUST 514, announced the theme of Fanfest to be “EVE: The Second Decade” as the combined EVE Universe approaches 10 years of continuous growth following a hugely successful free winter expansion in EVE Online: Retribution and the open beta for the free-to-play PlayStation3 exclusive MMOFPS (massively multiplayer online first-person shooter) DUST 514. DUST recently joined EVE on the same server cluster, providing an even larger universe and the much-anticipated Orbital Strike feature between the two games.
This Fanfest will celebrate ten years of gaming’s most interesting, passionate and creative community and offer extensive retrospectives and future glimpses. Everything is larger, better and more than previous Fanfests, following EVE’s success.
In addition to the traditional fare, this year will feature several unique events including the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra performing music from EVE Online, a new “Make EVE Real” speaker track that uses real-world science and innovation to illuminate the path to EVE’s Sci-Fi future, and a performance by Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson, phenom MMA submission fighter fresh off a UFC bout in London. CCP Games, one of the world’s leading independent game studios, has announced EVE Online: Retribution, the 18th free expansion for its award-winning sci-fi massively multiplayer online game.
Coming on December 4, 2012, EVE Online: Retribution will shake the very core of the limitless game universe as it rockets towards an unprecedented 10th anniversary year with more players than ever before.
Central to EVE’s dynamic unending content are the dreams, plans and actions of its players. EVE Online: Retribution accentuates the core philosophy of the legendary online society: that each decision and each action bears truly meaningful consequences via human interaction.
A complete rework of EVE‘s bounty system will allow players to exact revenge by placing bounties on individuals, corporations and alliances and enlisting other players to “do the dirty work.” The agression flagging system, “Crimewatch,” will undergo changes as well, making clear the consequences of actions, whether legal, suspect or illegal. Within EVE Online’s eternal crucible of warfare, politics and industry, even the most passionate and skilled are tested.
November 29th, 2011 will witness impressive evolutions in EVE Online’s graphics, interface and game mechanics with over three dozen updated and improved features based on feedback and challenges put forth by its passionate player community.
This is EVE reforged.
The global melting-pot/universe of player personalities sees a melting pot of improvements to match as CCP laser focuses on getting back to basics with its infamous internet spaceships.
Some of the major improvements players are lauding:
- Four fan-designed battlecruisers built to deliver swift and effective destruction to the opposition
- Over a dozen stunningly remade nebulae, changing the look and feel of EVE’s universe completely
- Other fan-favorite graphical improvements such as engine trails, warp tunnels and shadows
- Time dilation in fleet flights – adjusting time itself to keep fairness alive when hundreds of players face off against each other
- 3 new factional captain’s quarters with unique, artistic looks
- A significant ship rebalancing effort, to bring greater diversity and balance to large and small scale conflicts

Players of EVE Online have just received over one and a half million dollars of virtual currency for use in the EVE Online Noble Exchange (NeX) Store as a reward for sharing the incredible player generated images and videos on www.eveisreal.net.
As a volume of sharing has reached its second milestone, the epic accomplishment puts another 1,000 Aurum, one of EVE’s virtual currencies, into the wallets of every active EVE player. Future unlocks include a reward of 1,500 Aurum for the tier 3 unlock, and 2,000 Aurum for the final level.
With this most recent milestone, the value to date of unlocked Aurum rewards stands at little over 3.6 million dollars, with a chance for players to double that reward going forward at the next unlock levels.
EVEisReal.net was created as a museum of player generated content and a sharing hub of that same content. EVE Online has the best player driven gameplay and economy in gaming, period. The stories that come out of EVE are both huge and unique, mainly because EVE is built upon the idea of emergent gameplay – that is gameplay that only becomes apparent as massive numbers exist simultaneously in one shared world on one server, worldwide. EVEisReal.net is a repository of a small slice of that greater shared history and a great place for people new to the EVE universe to explore what makes the game into an experience. Read more
