Microprose, a division of Cybergun S.A, has announced its latest title Special Forces: Team X, a team based 3rd person tactical shooter. It will be available for both the XBox 360 and PC and as a digital download, later this year. Atari will publish and distribute all versions of the game under an exclusive license agreement.

Special Forces: Team X (STX) is a team centric 3rd Person cover based shooter, featuring brutal firefights between elite squads of special force operatives. STX takes place in tomorrow’s world, one that is infested with conflicts amongst the geo-political power brokers. A world in which conventional warfare is dead, diplomacy is an affront to the hidden agenda of national objectives, and global strategy is accomplished using clandestine military power.

Initially revealed at by G4 at Gamescom in July, it has since won two show awards at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle in August for “Best Surprise Reveal” and runner up for “Best Shooter”.

Created by world renowned independent developer Zombie Studios, STX puts you in the role of an elite soldier in a Special Forces squad. The game features a unique map selection system, enabling players to shape the battlefield by selecting individual environmental pieces, resulting in over 100 combinations of combat zone. MechWarrior Online: Newest Commando Hero now available

Infinite Game Publishing and Piranha Games launched the Commando Hero Mech killing machine, Death’s Knell into the MechWarrior Online store. The true meaning of the newest Mech in the InnerSphere – a ringing of a bell to announce death – is an appropriate pre-cursor for those who challenge this Mech on the battlefield. Available now, this fast and agile Mech packs 176 points of armour and four medium lasers – two in each arm.

Temple Run 2 hits 20 Million Downloads on the App Store in First Weekend

mangi Studios today announced that Temple Run 2 was downloaded over 20 million times in its four days of availability on the App Store. The game rocketed to #1 Free App just eight hours after release, and is currently the #3 Top Grossing App. Free to download, Temple Run 2 is the sequel to the mega-hit original endless runner, Temple Run, which has been download over 170 million times across the App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Marketplace.

Spider Mech Available Now, First Double XP Event Coming in January for MechWarrior Online

Infinite Game Publishing and Piranha Games launched one of the fiercest and quickest Mechs into the InnerSphere as the Spider Mech made its way into the MechWarrior Online store. Available now, Spider is one of the most maneuverable and agile of all Light Mechs with a whopping eight jumpjets and an unmatched turning radius. Spider pilots can create nightmares for pilots of heavier Mechs on the battlefield; this is the time to watch your back!

TERA going free-to-play in Europe

Gameforge AG announced that in February 2013, the much-loved fantasy MMO TERA will be switching from the former subscription model to free-to-play. Korean developer Bluehole Studio already announced this switch in December. Now Gameforge follows suit as publisher of the European game version.

“We are very pleased to be able to in future offer the game content of TERA to its fans for free and in addition, to offer all who are interested the opportunity to see the quality of the game for themselves”, said Eva Schmitt, Product Director of TERA.

TERA goes free-to-play

The free-to-play model of TERA will have two base account types: the free user and the veteran.

The free user will be able to charge into adventure for free and will receive complete access to the entirety of TERA’s game content. This includes the races, classes, instances, equipment items and player versus player content for example, but also unique features such as the political system. Limitations exist for free users merely in the form of functional option restrictions, such as the number of character slots or the number of safe deposits available. Read more

DanceDanceRevolution Classroom Edition

UnitedHealthcare and KONAMI Digital Entertainment announced at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) a joint effort to reduce childhood obesity through KONAMI’s new DanceDanceRevolution (DDR) Classroom Edition, the latest iteration of the wildly popular dance game that has shown to encourage physical activity among adults and children.

DDR Classroom Edition is an interactive video game, also known as an “exergame,” that combines physical activity with energetic music and visuals. The game and associated hardware technology, which was developed by Performance Designed Products, enables up to 48 students to participate simultaneously, using wireless mat controllers that feature a smart card reader that tracks each student’s individual progress. While students move to the beat, teachers receive vital information about their students’ health including, steps, body mass index (BMI) and caloric burn rate.

KONAMI and UnitedHealthcare launched the game at three schools located in Longwood, Fla.; Gainesville, Ga.; and Fresno, Texas. The participating schools, with assistance from KONAMI and UnitedHealthcare, will use the game to track its impact on students’ health, well-being and exercise habits.  Read more

NetDragon has just announced several elaborate elements to be included in its newest FPS, Absolute Force Online. At the end of 2012, AFO successfully finished its closed beta testing phase, and officially began to allow open registration in open beta, demonstrating the company’s great new addition to its gaming lineup.

In the near future, there will be new holiday and special event weapons added, as well as a Spring Festival themed map, and new ‘Heroes’ will all be there for players to choose from. What’s more, a stronger and deeper customization function will also become available for players to make their in-game characters unique and exciting.

Players will have the ability to change their faces, hair style, skin, and tattoos from among the numerous styles available. As for weapons, players can enhance the looks of weapons, and paint them with special patterns that can be unlocked. A character development system will also be available in the future, bringing players the ability to gain special titles, fulfill in-game achievements, and strengthen the various weapons and equipment.
