Ghostly Gear Available for the Historical Fantasy MMORPG

Joymax has announced that haunted Halloween garb is now available for fantasy MMORPG Silkroad Online. The dark and sinister Duke outfit, complete with top hat and cape, is a perfect choice for any warrior about to seek revenge on his enemy. The Countess gown combines elegance and appeal while still exuding the ferocity of a female warrior.

These costumes aren’t just for scaring friends, either! Players can speak with the blacksmith NPC in town to upgrade avatar gear by adding individual attributes. These upgrades can enhance the gear with vitality, strength, magic and defensive traits. There are varying amounts of upgrades available per item, so choose your attire wisely.

The Duke and Countess outfits are limited edition items and will be replaced once the frightening festivities have ceased.

Get a costume and celebrate with us the ancient festival of Halloween in Park Town from the 29th October to the 12th November 2009. The Street Gears team has been busy over the last few weeks and has prepared many different and exciting events during this period.

From the 29th October to the 12th November we will start our event with the Pumpkin Tournament and the Ghost Pole Gate Attack. And for all bright minds we’ll have the Halloween Quiz on the 30th and the 6th November. For participating in the events, the best riders among you will be rewarded with fantastic prizes.

All players who log in on the first day of our event will have the chance to win a great prize, as the Street Gears team will raffle 5 new Brian character skins. And all players that will log in between the 29th October and the 1st November will receive a special Halloween gift!

Who is Brian? The 28 year old Brian is our new playable character that arrived in Park Town as an undercover agent and joins Dr. Brown’s archaeology team. He has a strong personality and is a master of disguise, survival and high precision weaponry. In his spare time he enjoys classical music and hard rock. Since the 29th October Brian has been available in the character shop.

Beside all those events and our new character, we are also going to present you a new track to discover: “Forbidden City“. The Asian style track holds a few surprises and requires both speed and control in order to succeed in recording the best times. The course includes jumps, speed ways and high slopes that require great agility and high speed!

2009 UK National Gamers Survey

October 27, 2009 · Filed Under Business, Consoles, News · Comment

Gamers want instant pleasure.

Digital distribution booming on all game platforms.

Online distribution and direct sales of games is rapidly expanding into the console and PC game market, traditionally serviced by retail. For the business of mobile games and games accessed via game portals direct online sales and distribution has always been key.

New data coming from the UK National Gamers Survey 2009 and identical surveys in the US and other EU markets confirm this and reveal new facts on different aspects of games industry’s hottest topic: “digital distribution”. Conducted by TNS and Gamesindustry.com, the survey found that 25% of all console users in the UK have downloaded and paid for complete games or extra levels via their console. 7% state that, when acquiring new games, they usually buy the game directly via their console. For PC games this figure is double: 14% of PC gamers are accustomed to buying and downloading directly online. Figures from the identical survey held in the US shows even more dramatic figures: 16% and 23%, respectively.

Game portals and mobile
19% of the UK population plays games on their mobile phone. 44% actually downloads new games and pays directly via their handset. The enormous reach of casual game portals – used by 32% of the total UK population – is due to the fact most games are free, but 20% of UK game portal players state they spend money on the portal. In the US this is even 33%. Paid subscriptions are the most popular in both countries but already 6% of all UK and US game portal players frequently buy premium games online.

Console and PC games
55% of the UK population plays games on consoles and 35% state they play PC games. 27% of UK console players state they download levels or complete games via their console, almost all have experienced paying for this. For Xbox 360 and PS3 the figures go up dramatically: 51% and 55% respectively; 25% for Nintendo Wii. When buying complete new games, 7% of all console players states they usually do so directly via the console. 14% of PC gamers pay and download games directly. As can be expected percentages are even higher in the younger age groups.

Video content and demos
Online distribution is not only a factor in purchasing games. Almost 25% of UK console game players state that the availability of a downloadable trial version or demo is a crucial factor in their buying decision. This is close to the 30% for PC gamers that traditionally have online access. 45% of PS3 users downloads or accesses video content via their console. This is 41% for Xbox360 and a mere 22% for Nintendo Wii.

Game market revenues

Fast growing segments of the game market such as MMOs, mobile games and game portals are already attracting significant revenues through direct online payments. With the addition of console and PC game revenues shifting away from traditional retail, additional tools and approaches are needed to get the full picture of the games market.

Peter Warman, from Gamesindustry.com adds:“With the growing part of games being played and paid for online, a key way to monitor the complete games business is by asking consumers directly about their overall game behavior and spending. An additional advantage of this approach is insight across all platforms as the traditional divide between the online casual and core console market has evaporated.”

Premier videogames publisher Iceberg Interactive and developer Tripwire Interactive have yesterday released a huge free content pack for Killing Floor named ‘Level Up’, as well as the Defence Alliance mod. Killing Floor was released over Steam earlier this year and has been one of the its best selling shooters, triggering Iceberg Interactive to take over European retail release for the exciting co-op horror shooter.

Iceberg Interactive CEO Erik Schreuder said: “Our friends at Tripwire Interactive really deserve a lot of credit for caring for the community so much. They keep supporting their game and keep releasing great new content for the addictive 6 player co-op shooter that is Killing Floor. It is uncanny that such a huge update with so many extra’s is released for free and I believe this is not even the end of it. At Iceberg we’re very excited to play this update and recommend that anyone who has a taste for horror survival and co-op shooters, does exactly that as well. I may not be objective but I really recommend this very, very highly: it’s actually inexpensive, guarantees months of fun and enjoys continuous support and expansions.“

In celebration of the Free Content Pack a Free Weekend will run from Thursday 22nd through Sunday 25th October and will allow anyone to play the full game, including all the additional free content, all weekend. NCsoft gives players plenty of Tricks and Treats this Halloween

October 22, 2009 · Filed Under MMO, News, Online · Comment

In honor of Halloween, NCsoft is providing its players with additional in-game content and activities to get into the holiday spirit. Along with in-game events, quests, costumes and contests across NCsoft’s portfolio of games, including Aion, City of Heroes, Guild Wars, Lineage, Lineage II and Exteel, players will find themselves face-to-face with zombies, werewolves, undead creatures and plenty of other foul dwellers along the way.

Below you will find a brief overview of the Halloween activities across NCsoft’s portfolio of games. For additional information and screen shots of the various in-game prizes, please visit www.press.ncsoft.com.

Aion – Harvest Revel
During the Fall harvest, the people of Atreia have always celebrated the bounty of the land. Years ago, the joy of the annual revels was troubled by an eclipse—a peculiar and magical eclipse that brought darkness to Asmodae and Elysea. Ever since, for days during Harvest Revel, the sky goes dark and the people of Atreia join in the hunt.

Asmodians celebrate the bounty through the Wild Hunt, racing after the Wild Kurthanir hunt leader and cooking special dishes made from the meat. On the other side of Atreia, the Elyos encounter undead creatures pulled back into a semblance of life by the power of the eclipse. Elyos must join roving Dark Night bands to hunt and destroy the undead before they invade Elyos villages.

Each day during Harvest Revel players will be rewarded for their investment with new lore and tasty treats including a Halloween Hat and candy that will transform players into in game creatures!
• Starts: Sunday, October 25, 2009
• Ends: Saturday, October 31, 2009
Visit www.aiononline.com for more Aion-specific information.

Guild Wars – The Return of Mad King Thorn
It’s Halloween in Tyria, and that means one thing: the return of Mad King Thorn! Similar to years past, the maniacal monarch has come to play, and he’s got a bag full of tricks and treats to delight and dismay. But non-tricksters fear not, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween – participate in several special events (a new series of quests and a costume PvP brawl) or explore the decorated cities/towns adorned with Halloween décor.
• Starts: Friday, October 23, 2009
• Ends: Monday, November 2, 2009
Visit www.guildwars.com for more Guild Wars information.

City of Heroes – Triumph over the New Deadly Halloween Apocalypse
Players brace themselves for a new apocalypse as City of Heroes’ annual Halloween Event returns with legions of Zombies, Werewolves, Jack-o-Lanterns, and other foul denizens descend upon Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. This year they’re bringing even more powerful allies! The new apocalypse is deadlier than ever as mysterious monstrosities join forces with the Eidolons, Shivans, and others. Paragon City and the Rogue Isles are in terrible peril, and only the greatest Heroes and Villains can turn back the tide. The greater the challenge, the greater the reward!
• Starts: Tuesday, October 20, 2009
• Ends: Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Visit www.cityofheroes.com for more City of Heroes information.

Lineage II – “Scarecrow Jack” and Halloween Adena Art Contest
Halloween is just around the corner and players can win in-game prizes by showing off their creative holiday spirit. Players are encouraged to create and share their Halloween and/or autumn themed adena art (visual art created by dropping adena on the ground in-game to create an image seen from above.) For those just looking to have fun this Halloween, players can don a “Scarecrow Jack” illusion featuring two animated emotes. Along with the illusion, players will receive 5 revita pops to refill their vitality bars while in game.
• Starts: Wednesday, October 28, 2009
• Ends: Thursday, November 19, 2009
• Deadline for art submissions is Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:59pm CDT
Visit www.lineage2.com for more Lineage II information.

Lineage – “Cavern of Chaos” Costume Party
The Lineage team is hosting the in-game party of all parties this Halloween – costumes not required, but highly encouraged! In addition to free polymorph “costumes,” most monsters will drop pumpkin seed, which is redeemable for prizes like a Pinewand to spawn monsters of choice, accessories, and Stat t-shirts from NPCs. No tricks about it, as an added bonus, players will be treated to increased item drops from Bosses. See you at the “Cavern of Chaos!”
• Starts: Wednesday, October 28, 2009
• Ends: Wednesday, November 4, 2009
