Angels Online: Holy Battlefield in New Expansion

December 30, 2008 · Filed Under News, Online · Comment

As one of three PVP systems in Angels Online (, the Holy Battlefield, from the newest expansion, offers players even more PK fun. Players can PK freely here and capture materials just like in the Outpost Battlefield and the Totem Battle systems. Today, the Angels Online team is talking about Holy Battlefield in m ore detail.

When the new expansion “The Lost Atlantis” was released, Holy Battlefield became available to all players. Different from the Totem Battle, it is held on an appointed map and all participants are randomly divided into two groups. That means players from different factions can fight shoulder to shoulder. Not only guilds but also newbie players who haven’t joined any guild can take part in this event. The Angels Online team will be holding the Holy Battlefield four times each week.

During the 15 minutes before the event starts, players must go find the NPC Battle Angel in the four cities and then be teleported to the Sign-up Office. They can sign up to take part in the event from the Holy Battlefield Clerk. The Clerk will randomly divide all participants into the two armies and teleport them to their relative Rebirth Preparation Area.

About the Battle
The system announcement will announce the start of battle. Players from different armies can then freely PK. Remember, it is better for players to make a complete battle plan while they are enjoying the PK. Only the army who captures the most crystals can win the battle.

About Points

1. Kill an enemy: Each player can earn points by killing enemies.

2. Destroy a City Gate: City Gates are the main fortification on the battlefield. Players should work together to destroy the opponent army’s City Gates and earn the corresponding points.

3. Destroy a Statue: Each army possesses 25 Statues. If these statues can be destroyed, then there are a lot of points to be earned.

Also, in order to earn more points, production players can increase their army’s defense by building City Gates and Statues. Crystals will be captured if these defensive structures are destroyed. So each production player in the battlefield should try collecting materials and building defensive structures. The Holy Battlefield means fun for everyone!

In Holy Battlefield, players from the winning army can obtain abundant exp as reward. Don’t worry! Players can still obtain exp according to their point totals, even if they are not a winner.

Digital Eel Opens Up The Brainpipe

December 26, 2008 · Filed Under News · Comment

A Psychedelic Endurance Run Through Your Third Eye!

BRAINPIPE, from the wild and weird minds of Digital Eel, is a game about transcendentalism, unhumanity, ganglia, and Jonathan Winters. It is a game that answers the question, “If Timothy Leary had designed a computer game, what would it look like?” Unfortunately it does not answer the question, “Why do drive-up ATMs have Braille keypads?”

BRAINPIPE is a mindblowing virtual trip through your subconscious, rendered in bedazzling three dimensions and made possible through your computer. Using a one click interface and rated 33.13-TOXIC on the Pangborn scale, Brainpipe commands you to navigate the twisted passages of the mind in your ultimate quest to awaken your inner self and become more than human.

Experience your mind’s eye from the first person perspective, swooping through its glowing neon tunnels (who knew the subconscious looked so much like Las Vegas on acid?) while collecting glowing glyphs and avoiding dangers that will shatter your psyche and unleash the dreaded brain drain-whereupon your skull implodes. Imploding skulls are usually never enjoyable, so try to avoid the bad things, ‘kay?

Published by Shrapnel Games (and as publisher we feel it is our duty to warn you that after prolonged exposure to Brainpipe many testers found that reality was a pale shade of what Brainpipe offered, creating an addiction that was only kept in check by seeing if their previous high score could be beat) BRAINPIPE is available as an immediate download for Windows. Fear not Mac users, with your much cooler television commercials (Mojave experiment? Really Bill, that’s the best marketing billions of dollars buys you?), a Mac version is in the works and will be available soon.

Of course all this talk about glowing glyphs, navigating your mind, and Jonathan Winters may be leaving you going, “Hunh?” Or perhaps, “What?” Maybe even, “Corn flakes!” So strap yourself in, grab the demo, and let the Brainpipe flow! Download it by heading on over to the BRAINPIPE game page.

BRAINPIPE can be purchased for only $14.95 from the Shrapnel Games online store, the Gamers Front. Trip the light fantastic within minutes of purchase!

For more groovy gaming from Digital Eel be sure to check out, home to their award-winning galactic funhouse, Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space. You’ll also find their complete catalog of freeware titles to enjoy, along with an entire catalog of the best independent strategy gaming on the ‘net. From fighting the entire Pacific War in about three hours in the recently released War Plan Pacific to fighting twenty other players for godhood in Dominions 3: The Awakening, there’s something for everyone at Shrapnel Games, independent publisher of fine titles since 1999.

Velvet Assassin

December 26, 2008 · Filed Under Consoles, News · Comment

From day one the developers at Replay Studios knew they didn’t want to simply sensationalize one of the most tragic wars in human history, but to give gamers one of the first true-to-life experiences. An integral part of that mission was to provide players with an intriguing view of the war by portraying a strong, yet normal woman, not only in physique – but also in the reality of her abilities. Violette is a woman who has lost everything dear to her and now has but one goal – to disrupt and destroy the Nazi regime. Completely alone behind enemy lines, Violette has to do whatever it takes to complete her missions with what she has on hand. Everything Violette has must have a meaning and a use, including her clothing. Depending on the mission, Violette has a few sets of clothing that she can use to her advantage.

Below we give three examples of some of the outfits available in Velvet Assassin

Pilot Outfit – Violette’s mainstay is her standard brown leather jacket and blue canvas cargo pant set. While not exactly all the rage in Milan, this is a very likely outfit of the times; providing the wearer with the storage of cargo pockets, durability of canvas and toughness of the leather. This outfit gives Violette a solid set of threads to get by with. There isn’t too much to be said for these duds, but they get the job done.

Leather Sneaking Suit
– The all-leather suit gives Violette a slight edge in darkness. For obvious reasons she’s able to blend in with the shadows much better in this suit. Made of supple leather, this is the ideal outfit for Violette, with the tough, yet soft feel of the leather offering her great flexibility in both combat and stealth.

Nazi Officer Uniform
– As the old saying goes, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em! Isn’t it funny how they never seem to find the things right under their noses? With one quick wardrobe change, Violette takes on the Nazi Officer uniform and can easily infiltrate enemy ranks. The minute Violette dons the uniform, she takes on the persona of a Nazi officer, walking and saluting to keep the other soldiers completely fooled. As long as Violette doesn’t have any close face-to-face encounters and doesn’t behave suspiciously, she should be able to fool any soldiers she comes upon.

Night Dress – This outfit is completely unsuited to any of the exploits that Violette will undertake, but that’s the point. The entirety of Velvet Assassin is actually a flashback, with Violette remembering her efforts while in a coma. Whenever players get into a tight spot in the game, they can go into Morphine Mode which simulates Violette getting an injection of the drug from her nurse to calm her down as she lives out the horrific memories of war in her violent dreams. When this happens, the action slows down and the world around her becomes more of a dreamscape, and whatever Violette was wearing is temporarily exchanged with the nightie she’s garbed in at the hospital.

Velvet Assassin will be released for Xbox 360 and PC in early 2009. For more information about Velvet Assassin please visit
