An in-depth view of Runes of Magic’s crafting system

November 29, 2008 · Filed Under News · Comment

Besides exciting PvE and PvP adventures, Runes of Magic offers lots of activities for crafters and traders as well. Players can accept gathering professions already in the starting areas, to collect materials for the crafting of weapons, armor, potions or nourishing meals.

Later on, the professions of carpenter, blacksmith, armor crafting, alchemist, tailor and even cook are available. Alchemists mix potions, cooks prepare strenghtening food, carpenters and blacksmiths produce the best weapons in the country, while armor crafters and tailors are catering for the protection needs. Having taken the first steps in their profession, players can hire out as apprentice. Just like in real life, they can learn more than one profession in the fantasy-world of Runes of Magic and specialize later, depending on their interest. A new web article on the official website explains many more details:

At first, the apprentice artisan has moderate skills only, but they are rising with each of his creations. Altogether, there are four ranks to master: apprentice, craftsman, specialist and master. The gathered resources can be refined into valuable items near the tools of the crafters. In the cities all of those tools are marked by a green arrow and the appropriate symbol for the profession. Crafters who’d rather want to work in the safety of their own home can build their personal workshop there or work in their guild house.

The magical runes that grant the world of Taborea their power can be combined by skilled craftsmen in the most different ways, taken apart into their components and integrated into manufactured products. That way, players can equip themselves with valuable items or earn a little extra money selling their crafted goods. It is even possible to extract attributes from one item and transfer them onto other items. This way, the most inconspicuous weapon can adopt the might of a powerful artifact or a gorgeous evening gown can be furnished with the resistance of an unsightly piece of armor. When the personal requirements are met, it may be advisable to boost the economy. The auction house is the right place to dispose of the produced surplus or to supply yourself with cheap resources.

Runes of Magic is currently in closed beta. Interested players can still apply for access to the beta test on The ambitious MMORPG project is scheduled to go into open beta with further polishing and completely localized in the course of December.

Codename: Panzers – Cold War

Cold War Sequel in Award Winning Codename Panzers Real-time Strategy Series to be Published Worldwide by Atari for Windows PC

It’s time to reshape cold war history as Atari announce the forthcoming launch of Codename Panzers: Cold War, the latest PC real-time strategy title in the acclaimed Codename Panzers series from developers Stormregion and InnoGlow. The tense period in history when a word out of place could lead to all-out war provides a chilling backdrop for the real-time strategic action of Codename Panzers: Cold War, scheduled for release worldwide in February 2009 for Windows PC.

During the Cold War conflict the status quo between the occupying Allied and Soviet forces rests on a knife edge, when an aircraft accident over Tempelhof Airport during the Berlin Blockade threatens to tip the scales towards full-blown conflict. The tragic collision of an American cargo plane with a Russian fighter costs not only the lives of both crews, but proves to be all the encouragement Stalin and his Red Army needs to wage all out bloody war against the NATO forces.

“The intensely realistic scenarios of the cold war era make it one of the richest and dynamic periods in history to set a game,” said Phil Harrison, President, Infogrames Entertainment, the parent company of Atari. “With the added benefit of Stormregion’s online gameplay innovations, Codename Panzers: Cold War will continue the success of its predecessors.”

Codename Panzers: Cold War represents the pinnacle of Cold War era conventional warfare including real world post-war heavy armor battles between heavy tanks like the American M103 and the Russian Troyanov. To take the gameplay beyond build-and-rush tactics the game uses a Point of Interest system, with distinctive structures on the map that teams must occupy to gain additional Prestige Points. Depending on the location and type of structures you occupy, Prestige Points can then be used to call in special attacks like napalm or helicopter support, or to produce additional units. Infantry can employ special urban warfare tactics like building and taking cover, constructing fortifications or tunneling, while the dynamic weather conditions affect unit behaviour and limit sight range creating even more tactical gameplay depth.

Taking the Cold War online, Codename Panzers: Cold War features extensive multiplayer gameplay options including coop, deathmatch and domination modes. A high level of customization means that entire armies can bear their own unique livery and that every single unit including tanks can be customized with equipment including flamethrowers, amphibian devices, camouflage nets and more. The title is undergoing extensive fine tuning and balancing of the gameplay prior to launch to ensure the most satisfying RTS experience possible.

With highly detailed visuals generated by Stormregion’s next-generation engine and online multiplayer for up to 8 players, Codename Panzers: Cold War brings the full cold-blooded chill of war to RTS fans, scheduled for release in February 2009.

Site getting 400,000 daily hits rivaling WoW; Retention rate unheard of 33%

Artix Entertainment, which four weeks ago added a browser-based MMORPG called AdventureQuest Worlds to its three-title lineup, has revealed their site is getting 400,000 unique hits per day (12 million per month), a stunning number which compares favorably with Blizzard’s World of Warcraft’s recently announced 11 million subscribers.

Artix, a small, Florida-based family-owned studio that offers three other RPG titles AdventureQuest, MechQuest, and DragonFable, has enjoyed a high success rate in the past five years with over 60 million accounts created for their games.

“Our small web games have consistently attracted a lot of players,” said Adam Bohn, founder of Artix. “The 12 million unique hits per month is the average. We’ve actually hit an all-time monthly high of 17.6 million unique hits.”

Bohn also revealed a site retention rate which may be one of the highest in the games industry. “Of the unique visitors to our website, about 33% of them have an active account with us in at least one game.”

Why are these numbers so huge?

Bohn cited a mix of three possible reasons. “First is customer loyalty. We’ve worked hard to build a very loyal and sizable player base who followed us into the online world when we released AdventureQuest World,” said Bohn. “Second is the combination of quality games and the fun factor. The third reason, which we think is unique in the world of MMORPGs – including browser-based MMORPGs – is our commitment to updating every one of our games every week., which is the hallmark of all Artix games. We’re proud of our consistent track record of listening to our players and responding quickly to their input.”

AdventureQuest Worlds provides players with exciting adventures battling armies of monsters in real-time combat and enjoying new weekly quests alongside thousands of other real players. Players can customize their characters with armors, capes, helms, and custom-crafted weapons from the Blacksmith’s Shop at any level. Players have the freedom to change among different character classes at any time, and can level-up all of the classes to the max to unlock new skills and specialty shops along the way.

Players can visit to sign up for an account and play online for free. No downloads required. Other Artix RPG titles include MechQuest at, DragonFable at, and AdventureQuest at

Voyage Century: Treasure Map Overview

November 23, 2008 · Filed Under News, Online · Comment

Today the folks at Voyage Century are going to talk to you about treasure maps.

Do you still remember the story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves? Have you ever dreamed that one day you can find abundant treasure like Ali Baba? Well, while X usually does not mark the spot, and “Open sesame” probably won’t open many doors, the team at Voyage Century knows that there is a lot of treasure just waiting to be discovered.

A treasure map is the key to your dreams of fortune and fame, however, it’s not easy to obtain a complete map, because it is usually made up of several little pieces which are obtained from monsters, quests, etc… If you are lucky enough, sometimes you may find some right under your nose. After obtaining enough map fragments, you can find a treasure hunter to make a complete treasure map.

The complete treasure map will tell you the location of the treasure, and then you must go directly to the location to pursue your treasure!

What does the treasure contain? Money, rare blueprints, jewelry, gems, diamonds, high-level gear, valuable items… Basically, it contains whatever you want! J

In Voyage Century, the treasure not only exists on ground, but also exists on the high seas. You will definitely find these treasures as long as you have patience and fortitude. Glittering treasure awaits those that seek it out, my friends!

Navigate your way to adventure…and treasure, with Voyage Century Online!
