Runes of Magic expands with new siege mode

New PvP feature expands the world of Taborea with castle-battles and siege weapons

Frogster is pleased to announce that the time for epic battles in Runes of Magic has now arrived. The introduction of Siege Wars will further expand the online world of Taborea as guilds compete against one another to capture their opponents’ castle. The upcoming content update on 11th March will see the launch of the beta phase of the new Player vs Player mode. The definitive launch of the Siege Wars will then follow with the launch of ‘Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms’.

From the launch of Runes of Magic, guilds have been able to have their own strongholds, with building extensions and furnishings to complete their homes. To launch a Siege War all you need is two guilds, two castles and one simple objective – destroy your opponent and their castle. As a part of Chapter III, the Siege Wars will include new bonuses such as increased running speed and the ability to build an arsenal of weapons including catapults, rams and arrow throwers.

To succeed guilds will need to capture energy nodes on the battlefield to provide the necessary resources for the construction of battle weapons or towers. Should a team break through the enemy’s castle walls and make it to the throne room, then the defenders will have to protect the energy crystal which is kept there. If the team should seize all of the opponents’ crystals as well as their resource nodes, then the battle is won. Special rewards and titles beckon for victorious guilds.

From the launch of the feature, which will arrive on 11th March with the update ‘Patch 2.1.7. Siege Wars’, Runes of Magic players will have one month to give the battles a thorough test. Frogster will be ultimately implementing the new PvP mode into the online game world to its full extent within the framework of ‘Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms’. There is more information available about the Siege Wars on the official website: www.runesofmagic.com/en/siegewars-patch.html. King of Kings 3 conquers North America

March 9, 2010 · Filed Under Beta, MMO, News, Online · Comment

Epic battles, sprawling cities, and warring kingdoms locked in a never-ending struggle for power. King of Kings 3, the newest instalment of the popular Taiwanese MMORPG series, is considered one of the best releases of 2009 and captivates millions of players in Asia. In addition to holding the European publishing rights, gamigo is proud to announce that it now holds the North American license for the game.

“As a globally-focused publisher, our aim is to be able to offer our games in all key markets,” says Patrick Streppel, member of gamigo’s executive board. “King of Kings 3 is one of the highlights of our portfolio. The emphasis of the game is on PvP battle and the extensive guild features, such as the building of guild towns and guild warfare, are unparalleled in the realm of free-to-play gaming.”

The game’s developing studio, Lager, and gamigo have been working hard the past year to localise the game for Western markets. The plot of the game has been completely rewritten and the seven fantasy realms are based on medieval powers, giving players from Europe and North America the opportunity to go into battle for their nation. A complete re-balancing reduces grinding and now allows players to reach the highlights of the game, PvP and guild gameplay, more quickly.

Thanks to the game’s complex and multilayered guild system, guilds band together first to form legions, next kingdoms, and finally alliances to wage war against enemy kingdoms and territories. Up to 10,000 players compete simultaneously in truly epic RvR battles to determine the fate of the guild towns and realms. Only the bravest warrior will come out on top and become the ruler of the entire realm, the fabled King of Kings.

King of Kings 3 is expected to go into Closed Beta testing in the second quarter of 2010. To participate in Closed Beta testing, visit the game’s official website: http://kok3.gamigo.com

2010 Classic Gaming Expo

March 8, 2010 · Filed Under Business, News · Comment

Video Game Designers, Players, Collectors and Fans Will Invade Vegas This Summer

CGE Services Corporation has announced that the 2010 Classic Gaming Expo will rock Tropicana Las Vegas on the weekend of July 31 and August 1, 2010.

Now in its 12th year as the ultimate destination for retro-gaming aficionados, Classic Gaming Expo introduces the pioneers of video game design to the players who grew up with their creations. In previous years, the special guests at CGE have included such dignitaries as Ralph Baer (the “father of home video games”), Nolan Bushnell (co-founder of Atari Inc.) and million-selling game designers like Al Alcorn (Pong), David Crane (Pitfall!) and Rob Fulop (Demon Attack). Luminaries like these will present keynote speeches at CGE 2K10, where they will reveal the behind-the-scenes stories of their greatest hits, answer questions and sign autographs for fans. Please check the official CGE Web site at www.cgexpo.com for an updated list of “alumni” who are expected to appear at this year’s show.

A major portion of the expo is devoted to retailers and collectors who buy, sell and trade games, peripherals and gaming memorabilia. The main floor is a giant showroom for vintage game vendors as well as publishers who create new games for classic systems. Classic Gaming Expo regularly attracts hardcore video game collectors from around the world; many of the rarest and most valuable games have changed hands at CGE. Yet there are also plenty of bargains to be had. Parents can introduce their kids to the Atari games they played as teenagers…collectors can fill the holes in their Nintendo libraries…amateur video game historians can learn about rare prototype games and game systems. Classic Gaming Expo meets all of these needs and more.

One of the show’s most eye-opening exhibits is the CGE Museum, where over 1,000 of the most desirable video game artifacts are put on public display. These are the “holy grails” of video game collectors—one-of-a-kind prototypes, limited-edition collectibles, rare hardware and ephemera. In previous years, the CGE museum has proudly displayed such precious items as the ultra-rare Stadium Events NES game (a copy recently sold for over $13,000), the Nintendo
World Championships 1990 cartridge (both the gray and gold versions, valued at $18,000 and $5,000 respectively), unreleased Atari systems and much more.

Other attractions at Classic Gaming Expo: live music, a variety of game tournaments, dozens of classic arcade games set up for “free play” (no tokens or quarters necessary!) and plenty of classic home game systems available for attendees to walk up and play at their leisure. Another popular highlight is the Saturday-night CGE auction, where rare games, systems and memorabilia are sold to the highest cash bidder in a raucous atmosphere of collector camaraderie and one-upmanship.

Classic Gaming Expo 2010 is open to the public; gamers of all ages are welcome. The “Early Bird” admission price is $25 for a weekend pass if you register on the CGE Web site before May 31st. The second-tier “advance registration” price will be $30 between June 1st and July 1st, or passes can be had at the door for $35. Admission is free for children 8 years old and under. Click the “Discounts” tab at www.cgexpo.com for information on Tropicana Las Vegas’ special room rates for CGE attendees.

Combat Arms enhances arsenal with extensive weapons update

March 1, 2010 · Filed Under News · Comment

Combat Arms added some great new weapons to the arsenal for its latest update, which is live and free-to-play at http://combatarms.nexon.net.

The more than three million registered soldiers have three new weapons to choose from – the AA-12 Shotgun, M417 SB machine gun and M93 Hornet Mine. There are also some new features for how players can acquire rare weapons and retain them for longer periods.

Before this update, players would use real money to get NX Cash and purchase weapon-specific supply cases. Now, players can purchase Supply Crates with NX Cash (MYST-N) or with in-game currency, Gear Points (MYST-G).

These crates offer soldiers an opportunity to acquire any rare weapon in the game and allow players to bypass rank requirements for weapons. Rare weapons sold for GP can now be unlocked by higher-ranked soldiers, instead of being available only through supply cases.

The game also added a Weapon Renewal Kit, which allows players to extend the duration of their weapon from one day to getting a permanent duration. No longer do players have to worry about their favorite weapon expiring.

And to thank players who waited during the extended maintenance, Combat Arms is offering a double EXP event this weekend. Players will also enjoy the celebration of Machine Gun Month during March, with blowout sales and events surrounding machine guns.

Changchun 2

February 26, 2010 · Filed Under Beta, MMO, News, Online · Comment

WeMade unveiled three new Massively Multiplayer Role-Playing Games (MMORPG) at Gstar 2009: NED, Changchun, Zwei Online. Amongst three highly-anticipated games, Changchun kicks off a Closed Beta test (CBT) first.

Changchun2 is a hybrid between targeting and non-targeting system and maximized game control in MMORPG. Using non-targeting system, a player can attack multiple enemies at the same time if they are within attackable area. A majority of monsters move together in the game to make one vs. many combat possible.

Changchun 2 demands a high level of game control from users because a user can attack others yet effectively defend at the same time if s/he controls a character in a right way. This will satisfy high level users in the targeting system. Because of that, fighting multiple monsters in Changchun 2 provides the best of entertainment and thrill in a unique way.

In Changchun 2, character classes including Magician, Swordman, Blademan all have unique powers. PvP contents and Hero Spawn will be added to the game later on.

Freestyle: Street Basketball Big spring festival to be held in March

February 24, 2010 · Filed Under MMO, News, Sport · Comment

Major contents update on March 2nd and various events to attract users

MMO sports game FreeStyle Street Basketball, serviced at global game portal GameKiss, will launch a big-scale update and special events to celebrate the coming spring of 2010. The fourth major update since the game’s commercialization in May 2009 will faithfully reflect users’ feedback and provide many benefits to participants.

This big-scale update which will be carried out for three times from March 2nd includes nearly 100 items that will satisfy users’ needs. A new decorative item, 16-Level special character slot and a face-customizing item will allow users to express themselves better in more diverse ways. Also, in order to live up to the diverse, fast-changing fashion trend, items that were permanently sold will now be sold during a set period. The price of the items will go down instead, reducing users’ financial burden. Among newly added FreeStyle Skills is the “Power Rebound” which has been requested mostly by centers and big guys. The items are expected to become very popular after its release.

Furthermore, reflecting users’ needs for new courts, FreeStyle will add five brand-new courts for the first time since the game’s launch. Winter versions of two popular courts, the Big Flow and the Factory Yard, were added, and The Palace whose background is an antique European palace will add new energy and style to the game.

Many bugs will be also corrected in this update. Some ranking bugs, single player errors and other minor item bugs will be corrected, improving the game environment to another level.

FreeStyle’s GM Roxy said this update intends to reflect every small opinion of users which have been put on hold due to important system patches. “I hope users find small things they needed through this update,” said Roxy of this update.

The “Resurrection of Forgotten FreeStylers” which will start the Big Spring Festival on March 2nd is prepared for newly beginning users who haven’t accessed FreeStyle for more than a month. Together with it, the following “Throw in Extra 2″ event will flood users with an abundance of game money, points and items.

March will be a month of a very generous festival.

More details about the new event can be found at the official website of FreeStyle Street Basketball: http://freestyle.gamekiss.com.
